Aged Negro Minister Of Local Church Dies.

Rev. I. A. Carter, aged 80, negro minister of the old school, died Wednesday at his home on Gary street. He was connected with the Rev. John Glassell’s family at Mansfield during slavery days, but moved to Shreveport soon after, where he has lived continuously until his death. After coming here he placed his business in the hands of Mr. T. C. Barret and after Mr. Barret’s death, was in failing health.

He has been an active member of the negro race and his last act was to purchase 120 acres of land from R. L. Stringfellow for a negro school. He was pastor of St. John’s Baptist church of Mansfield 48 years and of Evergreen church in this city for 42 years.

He will be buried Friday morning in the Star cemetery, from the Evergreen church.
