“Dr. S. C. Packer, Valuable Citizen”
The death of Dr. S. C. Packer, a Negro doctor and civic leader, removed a valuable Lufkin citizen from the local scene.

Dr. Packer devoted much of his time to helping make Lufkin a better place in which Negro citizens might live. In doing this, he worked unceasingly to build a better citizenship in the part of his people.

He was one of the leaders in organizing the Negro Chamber of Commerce a decade and a half ago, and he had been one of its most active members.

Dr. Packer worked closely with white citizens in various projects that would be of benefit to his people and to Lufkin as a whole.
